Filbert Street – Leicester Student Accommodation

Our client is a major developer in the student/key worker accommodation sector. Situated next to the new “Filbert Street” football ground for Leicester City, the development comprises a development of one hundred and forty eight units totaling six hundred and eighty bedrooms available for rent by students in the Leicester area. Each apartment consisted of either four, five or six bedrooms together with en-suites and a single communal kitchen area.
The Brief:
Air Quality Services were appointed to provide ventilation to comply with “BRE398” – continuous mechanical ventilation in dwellings. We were also required to take into account the implication of noise levels together with the overall aesthetics of the products installed.
The solution:
As opposed to using individual extract fans we opted to use a single in-line acoustic centrifugal fan to extract from each en-suite and communal kitchen.
The result:
By installing this type of system we have kept noise levels to a minimum whilst ensuring that the aesthetics of the building are not compromised by the need to have individual extract points on the external walls for each wet area.To provide additional ventilation when required the fan is connected to a boost switch within the kitchen area. To further ensure that the system is unobtrusive the external grilles have been powder coated in a RAL colour identical to that of the window surrounds.
